Abstract
We reexamine the frequency conversion of radiation pulses in the presence of electron plasma waves. An analytical formulation, describing the dependence of pulse frequency on the plasma density and electron-density perturbation, is derived from the plasma dispersion relation and phase-matching condition. The basic issues of photon-accelerator schemes are discussed based upon the calculation results.
