Abstract

The present work concentrate on frequency analysis of beams laminated with light activated shape memory polymer (LASMP), whose Young’s modulus can be adjusted by light exposure. Based on this noncontact mechanism, stiffness of beams with LASMP can be manipulated so as to realize frequency control. Natural frequency of LASMP patch laminated beams with different boundary conditions is computed by present methodology and FEM for validation first. Then, influence of LASMP patch pair length and location on natural frequency of simply supported beam is evaluated numerically. This work is helpful and useful for frequency control of beams in practical applications.
