Abstract
AbstractBasically, there are two approaches for the analysis of helioseismic data. First, local helioseismology measurements and inversions and, second, global helioseismology which consists in measurements and inversions of p‐mode frequencies and frequency splittings. Both the advantages and disadvantages of global helioseismology and the local technique of ringdiagram analysis are discussed. Also discussed are two fitting methodologies for use in global helioseismology. Finally, a modification of the traditional global helioseismology approach is suggested which allows the extension of spherical harmonic decompositions for local helioseismic studies.
