Abstract

AbstractFour scalar complex parameters (dielectric permittivity, magnetic permeability, chirality parameter, and nonreciprocity parameter) characterize general biisotropic materials. In this communication, possible techniques for material parameter measurement are addressed. Procedures are based on free‐space measurements of plane‐wave reflection from the transmission through a biisotropic slab. Explicit formulas expressing the material parameters in terms of scattering matrix coefficients are given for measurements at normal incidence. © 1993 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.
