Abstract

This is a practical self-help guide written for people affected by anxiety. Its interest for community nursing practitioners is both to inform themselves and to recommend to patients. Anxiety disorders—by which the authors mean Phobias (including agoraphobia and social phobia), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Panic Attacks and Generalized Anxiety Disorder—are extremely common yet often go unrecognized and untreated. District nurses may be well placed to identify members of this hidden population in the community. For many sufferers self-help is a viable way forward and this book shows how to set up and follow an individually tailored recovery programme.
