Abstract

Free vibrations relative to the static prebuckled and postbuckled states for delaminated homogeneous plates have been investigated. A constrained model is used to analyze vibrations in prebuckled states and a free model is used to analyze vibrations in postbuckled states. The characteristics of vibrations in these two states are quite different. In the prebuckled region, the vibration modes are in-phase global natural modes. However, in postbuckled states, there are three distinct types of vibration modes—near-local mode, near-global mode and general mixed mode. It is also found that the vibration characteristics have been influenced significantly by delamination for plates with long and thin delaminations.
