Abstract

Over the last few years, dentistry has evolved in such a way that clinicians are not only required to treat disease and improve function but also to cope with the ever increasing esthetic demands of our patients. Among the esthetic procedures, root coverage by periodontal plastic surgery has attracted the most interest. Gingival recession is an apical shift of the gingival margin with exposure of the root surface. Gingival recession is frequently associated with cervical wear. In these cases, complete coverage by traditional mucogingival surgical techniques might be contraindicated because of the need for extensive root planing, which could compromise the tooth. The combination of an adhesive restorative material and surgical coverage might be a solution. Such a case is presented here, where a perfect blend of the principles of mucogingival surgery and the biocompatible nature of restorative material is effectively utilized.
