Abstract

In this article, two types of band-pass filters using fractal-shaped regular hexagon patch resonators are proposed and optimized in detail.Because of the space-filling property of the fractal geometry, the resonant characteristics of the filters are reported for the first time and can be adjusted by changing the parameters of the fractal-shaped structures. Using etched fractal-shaped defected structures in the regular hexagon patch resonators, the filters have many remarkable advantages, such as compact size, high selectivity, transmission zeros, and simple structure. Two types of band-pass filters are designed, fabricated, and measured. The measurement results of the proposed band-pass filters are in good agreement with the simulation ones. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
