Abstract

The far-infrared spectrum of methylamine has been studied by Fourier transform spectroscopy in the region 340 to 640 cm −1 with a resolution of 0.006 cm −1 or better. About 450 transitions have been assigned to 13 subbands in the v = 2 ← 0 torsional band, 8 in the v = 3 ← 1 band, and 1 in the v = 4 ← 1 band. Sublevel parameters in the v = 2, 3, and 4 torsional states have been determined from subband fittings. On the basis of sublevel origin data obtained in the present study combined with previous results for the ground and the first excited torsional states, the torsional-wagging problem is considered.
