Abstract
The high-resolution Fourier transform infrared spectrum of nitromethane has been measured to obtain the rotation-internal rotation structure of the A-type CN stretching band at 917.5 cm−1. For the methyl rotor m = 0 state vibration-rotation transition, have been analyzed on the basis of the rigid rotor Hamiltonian. Altogether 1414 transitions up to J = 40, Ka = 38 are used in a least-squares fit program to obtain the center wave number and the effective rotational and centrifugal distortion constants of the upper state.
