Abstract

Summary Brodkorb, Pierce & Mourer-Chauviré, Cécile. 1984. Fossil owls from Early Man Sites of Olduvai Gorge, Tanzania. Ostrich 54:17-27. Three species of owl have been recognized among the fossil bird remains of Olduvai. Bubo leakeyae n. sp. seems to be the immediate ancestor of the recent Spotted Eagle Owl Bubo africanus. The other forms are Giant Eagle Owl Bubo cf. lacteus and Barn Owl Tyto alba. These three forms indicate a landscape of lightly wooded savanna.
