Abstract
Summary The article is an introductory outline of the last two decades of research in the history of women artists. Beginning with an international background and with emphasis on Scandinavia, it makes concrete different forms of manifestation and the interactions between them, such as publishing, exhibitions, research and teaching at university level as well as the newly started Centre of Women's Art i Skelleftea. In conclusion the whole field is in need of further primary research and further development of feminist theories and methodology, not only history of women artists, but perhaps, more so, Art History.
