Abstract
Eighty years have passed since the then Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Armed Forces, gen. Władysław Sikorski, issued the order initiating the process of forming the 1st Armoured Division on 25 February 1942. The decisive period re- garding the formation of the armoured division was the fall of 1941, when studies concerning the possibility of forming such a tactical association were completed and talks on the subject were initiated with the British.
