Abstract

We propose that controlled self-organization of complicated nanoislands can be realized by using a patterned electric plate to generate an electric field on the Stranski-Krastanow film-substrate systems. The scheme can produce islands at the equilibrium or metastable states. The scheme has the potential to control the sizes, shapes, and sites of the self-assembled nanostructures.
