Abstract

l. The process by which carbon dioxide is formed in the dehydrogenation of butane-butane mixtures was investigated. 2. The relative rate constants for the formation of carbon dioxide from butane, butene, and butadiene were determined. 3. it was shown that carbon dioxide results mainly from the decomposition of butadiene. 4. It was shown that the process by which carbon dioxide is formed is allied to the process whereby carbonaceous deposits are formed on the catalyst when the reaction mixture is not diluted with steam.
