Abstract

AbstractThe radiation cell of a crank‐line antenna is analyzed by using the method of moments. The maximum beam direction, axial ratio, and half‐power beamwidth (HPBW) are calculated as a function of the side lengths of the radiation cell. Calculations show that, when the side lengths are properly chosen, the radiation cell can radiate a tilted wide beam of circular polarization. An array consisting of four radiation cells is also analyzed. The effect of mutual coupling on the radiation characteristics is examined. It is found that the array antenna forms a fan beam with an HPBW of 65° in the elevation plane with a tilt angle of 46°. © 2001 Scripta Technica, Electron Comm Jpn Pt 1, 84(8): 23–30, 2001
