Abstract

A useful mathematical model for block structured programming languages is Church's lambda calculus. The first paper presents a tutorial on the l-calculus and its relationship to programming languages. The second paper, using techniques introduced in the first paper, addresses certain fundamental questions in the definition of programming languages.
