Abstract
Three quarters of the nation's total usable streamflow originates on forested lands. Increasing demands for use of forested acres for many forms of outdoor recreation and Increasing demands for the forests' raw materials pose varied problems to resource managers. Activities on forested lands can alter the quality and quantity of water an acre of forested land will yield.Plans for development of resources of river basis should recognize the potential role of forest cover manipulation in altering the hydrologic cycle and the quality and quantity of the water resource.
