Abstract

In the past it has been deemed of interest to study the problem of determining the force, averaged over time, exerted by a spherical sound field on a rigid sphere, opaque to the field and free to move in the field. It seems equally of interest to consider the dynamics of motion of such a sphere under the action of the sound field. The objective of this note is to show the calculation of the instantaneous force due to the sound pressure acting on the sphere integrated over the surface, allowing for the motion of the sphere. The equation of motion of the sphere is set forth, and it is noted that methods of determination of a numerical solution of equations of this form are well known.
