Abstract

Studies have highlighted the ever-increasing role that food and nutrition play in our emotional status and the benefits of positive food choices in the management of mental health difficulties. Research is ongoing in this area, and the role of nutrition in mental health has yet to be fully understood and embraced. This article highlights how health professionals can encourage people to include a broad range of foods from a variety of sources to help ensure that macro- and micronutrient status is adequate. However, more research is required to develop our understanding of the role of nutrition in mental health.
