Abstract

I read with interest the letters of Rapp and Stare on "Diet and Hyperactivity" (Pediatrics 67:937, 1981) and I'm pleased that Pediatrics is continuing to air this problem. Admittedly, the diet/hyperactivity controversy is complex—unbelievably complex. Yet, every single day in my own pediatric and allergy practice I receive anecdotal reports from parents who tell me that the hyperactive behavior in their children subsides...often dramatically ... following a seven-day elimination diet. Parents report sugar as the number one cause of hyperactivity.
