Abstract

Summary Studies on food preference of Schizotetranychus schizopus Zacher and two‐spotted spider mite (Tetranychus urticae Koch) were carried out on 12 basket willow varieties growing in Poland. Feeding of females of S. schizopus and T. urticae placed on a leaf disk of the selected basket willow varieties lasted the longest on Monotur and Gudrun. The time spent on searching for food varied and the longest was accorded on Beagle and Marcel, while the shortest on Monotur, Gudrun and Wisla. However, if females of S. schizopus and T. urticae had a choice of 12 basket willow varieties, then they preferred most Monotur, Wisla and Gudrun, but least Beagle, Sven and Turbo.
