Abstract

Three steps in the biochemical synthesis of folate have been examined in the thoracic muscles of the mosquito Aedes aegypti. The incorporation of p-aminobenzoic acid and glutamic acid in the synthesis of folate is demonstrated, and the formation of 10-formyltetrahydrofolate is shown. The effects of folate synthesis inhibition on purine synthesis are examined, and suggestions are made as to the mode of systemic insecticidal action of a sulphonamide.
