Abstract

They looked like baby dolls, until they moved, cried or opened their eyes – real babies in the 80-bed intensive care unit in the Narayana Hrudayalaya (NH) heart hospital in Bangalore, India. On my visit there in September 2011 I was overwhelmed by the sheer number of cardiac surgeries performed – more than 60 a day. Their cuttingedge diagnosis and matching aftercare bring some of the highest success rates in the world.
