Abstract

Inhomogeneous ESR broadening due to local field distribution was observed in the mixed state of YBa2Cu3O7−δ with Tc = 91 K. The change in the ESR lineshape was investigated with paramagnetic “spin probes” applied just on the surface of the superconducting pellet. The ESR line just below Tc exhibited the characteristic lineshape expected from a vortex lattice. Upon further cooling, the lineshape evolved into double peak structure, inferring certain irregularity of vortex configuration. The width of the field distribution increased linearly with temperature below Tc in consistent with d-wave mechanism of superconductivity. Possible origins of change in lineshapes and applicability of the present method to the study of flux behaviors were suggested.
