Abstract

It is shown that the ground state of a sufficiently pure mesoscopic metallic in ring is in general a flux phase state, i.e. a state with a spontaneous magnetic flux ø SP generated by a spontaneous orbital current. The magnitude of spontaneous current depends strongly on the geometry of the system and of the Fermi surface.
