Abstract

This paper is mainly concerned with a numerical study of flow and boundary layer development in straight core annular diffusers using a finite difference method and marching integration technique. To this end, predictions have been made for four cone angles. Velocity profiles, displacement thickness, momentum thickness, shape factor, kinetic energy flux parameter, pressure recovery coefficients and effectiveness have been computed. The predicted pressure recovery coefficients have been compared with an experimental investigation. It is found that the agreement between predicted and experimental results is quite satisfactory.
