Abstract

Purpose: Knee flexion contracture is a common clinical finding in knee osteoarthritis (OA) patients. Literature is also abundant on how knee OA leads to gait impairments. However, the association between knee flexion contracture (also known as flexion deformity) and knee flexion/extension impairments during gait remains unclear. Although the assessment of both is part of the guidelines for the clinical evaluation of the knee, while flexion contracture is assessed by measuring active and passive joint range of motion, analysis of gait impairments is often overlooked due to restricted space in the clinic and the lack of tools to quantify them.
