Abstract

Summary: Pelvic fractures, especially those of the Malgaigne type, frequently occur in the setting of a polytraumatized patient. Sacroiliac disruption reflects a massive disruptive energy force with concurrent soft-tissue injury. Fixation through an anterior approach facilitates the accurate and stable fixation and avoids many of the soft-tissue and wound problems associated with posterior approaches.
