Abstract

Abstract Classical Five-Element Acupuncture was brought to the Western world by the late J.R. Worsley, MAc, DrAc(China), ND(UK) (1923–2003 ad). There is a growing tendency to dilute this system of acupuncture. The purpose of this article is to clarify and inform readers about the purity of this style. The opinions expressed herein are those of the author. The seven energetic blocks and impediments to treatment efficacy, the concept of Causative Factor (“CF”)—the one primary elemental imbalance at the root of a patient's symptoms—and the diagnostic correspondences used to diagnose the CF accurately, are discussed. The seven energetic blocks include Possession, Aggressive Energy, Husband/Wife Imbalance, the Umbilical Pulse, Akabani Imbalances, Entry/Exit blocks, and Spirit Level blocks. The Five Element diagnostic indicators include assessment of the patient's odor, facial color, vocal quality, and emotion.
