Abstract

Secondary lymphedema of the inferior limb after abdominal sugery, due to endometrial carcinoma is an acute effect of this oncologic condition. The surgical technique used was the total hysterotomy. It included not only the removal of the uterus, but also the removal of some chains of inguinal lymph nodes, becoming the lymphatic drainage of the limb affected. As a consecuence, a mechanical lymphedema was caused by obstruction, as the remaining inguinal chains were not enough to drain the lymph generated in said limb. Objectives a) presentation of the possibilities of Physiotherapeutic Treatment for the secondary lymphedema of the limb, and b) evaluation of the evolution during a period of time. The subject of this case research is a patient of 56 years of age, diagnosed and oprated by means of a total hysterotomy, being the afte-effect a secondary lymphedema of the inferior limb. The therapeutic treatment received by the patient was the Leduc Method, through M.L.D, presotherapy and a compression bandage. The duration of the research was from October 2001 to October 2002 and it was carried out in the Hospital Universitario Virgen de las Nieves, Granada. Result Reduction of lymphedema fibrosis and volume in 60 %, with an improvement quality of life.
