Abstract

Abstract For the first time, CsP7 was synthesized via a solution reaction in liquid ammonia at low temperatures. The blood‐red compound is air and moisture sensitive. The crystal structure of CsP7 was determined by single‐crystal X‐ray diffraction at 123 K. CsP7 crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pbcm (No. 57) with a = 9.0820(2) Å, b = 9.4193(2) Å, c = 9.65483(19) Å, Z = 4 and V = 825.93(3) Å3. CsP7 is isotypic with RbP7. The crystal structure is comprised of Cs+ cations as well as one‐dimensionally extended P7– chains proceeding along the c axis. The chains consist of nortricyclane‐like P7 cages linked in a linear fashion. Thus, for the very first time, a binary compound containing a polymeric Zintl anion was synthesized by a solution reaction in liquid ammonia.
