Abstract
Let κ be an infinite cardinal and let G = ⊕κℤ2. Now let β G be the Stone–Čech compactification of G as a discrete semigroup, and let ℍκ=∩α<κcℓβ G {x∈G∖{0}:minsupp (x)⩾α}. We show that the semigroup ℍκ contains no nontrivial finite group.
