Abstract

Twelve-month-old chlamydospores of Fusarium oxysporum germinated readily in distilled water, but newly developed chlamydospores required a carbohydrate source before germination occurred. In the presence of growing tomato roots, germinating chlamydospores developed germ-tubes that were often wider than the chlamydospore. Germ-tubes arose as an extension of a tertiary wall incorporated within the chlamydospore prior to germination.
