Finding Home: An Ecocritical Reading of Memory, Story, and Place in The Night Gardener

ABSTRACTThis article shows how the self-quantification movement and social media’s various ways of presenting 21st-century selves are being used to sustain and further the status quo of overconsumption and neocolonial exploitation, but also for making people realise that they are global citizens, closely linked with the people who make their products and the planet’s finite resources that are being used in the production as well as in daily consumption. To understand how these social media stories, numbers and images work, this paper uses interdisciplinary research, especially psychological and cognitive literary studies approaches.
