Abstract

We present the design of a balloon borne experiment based on the Limited Streamer Tube technology as a tracking telescope to detect gamma rays above 50 MeV. This technique allows one to obtain very large sensitive areas (16 m2 in our experiment). Because of the capability to collect a large signal in a short time and of its good angular resolution (about 2° above 200 MeV), the telescope is highly competitive to study both periodic and random rapid variabilities of gamma‐ray sources as well as to detect high energy gamma‐ray bursts.
