Abstract

Guangzhou is in hot summer and warm winter zone with a significant feature of hot and humid climate. Piloti is widely applied in modern architecture due to its strong adaption to variety of climates. It also solves the contradiction of city ecology and living space demand with reality. Taking a residential district in Guangzhou as a case study, the urban region thermal climate prediction model was used to simulate the micro-thermal climate in the district. Cases with piloti is and without pilot is were simulated respectively in order to analyze the impact of piloti on the thermal environment. Meanwhile, field measurements were carried out, four meteorological stations were located strategically in the residential district to monitor dynamic variations of the meteorological parameters, including air temperature, relative humidity, air velocity and solar radiation. In the farmland 200m south off the district, another meteorological station was set as a reference point. Compared simulated results with the measured data, conclusions were drawn as follows: the numerical dynamic simulated results generally agree with the measured data; the simulation can reflect the variation trend of the thermal environment; pilotis can increase the average wind velocity at pedestrian height and improve wind environment.
