Abstract

In chemistry education, theoretical courses and laboratory applications are executed parallel. Laboratory environment has some dangers and while students are working on their experiments must be in safe conditions. This study was carried on pre-service teachers whose taking the General Chemistry Laboratory in Elementary Science Education programs and pre-service science teachers\' opinions and knowledge degrees have been researched on laboratory safety. In the study, an information leaf that contains the ways of preventing danger while pre-service teachers are working in the general chemistry laboratory was prepared. A questionnaire was developed on laboratory safety and was applied to 129 pre-service elementary science teachers. After the questionnaire results were investigated, it was determined that pre-service teachers understood importance of laboratory safety in the general chemistry laboratory practices. The questionnaire results were analyzed using SPSS 13.0.
