Abstract

We have constructed a femtosecond optical parametric oscillator in order to perform transient four-wave-mixing experiments on (InGa)As/InP quantum well superlattice structures in the 1160–1300 nm wavelength region. The dependence of the low temperature exciton dephasing rate on sample parameters and temperature is investigated. The observed temperature dependence indicates disorder induced localization of excitons, which is consistent with inhomogeneous broadening of the exciton emission and absorption lines. In addition, we observe quantum beats in the FWM decay and attribute them to localized and bound excitons.
