Abstract

This paper presents the feasibility of electricity generation using WECS in the selected locations of Tigray region in Ethiopia. Weibull parameters were obtained using the energy pattern factor method (EPFM). A linear agreement was observed between mean wind speed and power density. Analysis of the present value of cost per kilowatt hour was estimated for selected wind turbines at different hub heights. In addition, regardless of the location, power law curve fit provides higher regression than the linear curve fit. From the analysis of results and discussion, it is revealed that (WECS)III has the least progressive ratio when compared with (WECS)IV. Finally, the average specific cost per unit for all chosen turbines at Mekele and Chercher is comparable to the cost per kWh charged by EEPCo, except for a few turbines in this study.
