Abstract

Information Technology (IT) decisions must be based on a thorough understanding of the organozation’s purpose and work requirements, including the contingency factors of the information systems development activities. Other preconditions of successful IT decisions include a proper analysis of decision alternatives and design measures, and specification of alternative implementation plans. IT decision are based on the organization’s long-term needs, but the decision-maker should continuously be aware of the state of the contingencies and change them when necessary. This chapter follows the research results of Savolainen (1986, 1991, 1997).
