Abstract

The Xianshuihe fault zone is an active fault zone noticeable by its rather high seismicity in West China. The present study will discuss segmentation of fault geometry and seismicity, the pattern of earthquake distribution and migration, physical conditions for seismogenesis, the relationship between fault length and earthquake magnitude as well as the tendency for seismicity along the Xianshuihe fault zone on the basis of fractal geometry and some theoretical research results on fault geometry.
