Abstract

This article places Cesar Guerra-Peixe's combined chamber songs in their aesthetic phases and genre. Considered a nationalist composer, his production is representative of an aesthetic tendency whose aim is to conciliate elements of the classical musical tradition in Europe with the popular and traditional music in Brazil. The works are presented according to the composer's own perspective, and it is possible to state that the objective of mediation between the artistic and musicological aspects bears an influence on the choices made. Besides a relevant contribution, in practice, the works display the multiple resources employed by Guerra-Peixe to insert the experience he accumulated as a researcher into the panorama of Brazilian classical music.
