Abstract

<h3>To the Editor:</h3> I wish to draw attention to a hazard of false eyelashes which I have recently encountered in several members of the fair sex thus adorned. Apparent progression of glaucomatous visual field defect in the superior field may be demonstrated when the patient is wearing the false eyelashes at the time of examination. Removal of the artifice eliminates the exaggerated field loss (and possibly a false indication for more serious surgical intervention). <h3>Editor's Note:</h3> Dr. Harrison has added one more cosmetic device to the list of those having unexpected side effects. In this case the effect is not only to the side but above. Apart from visual field testing, one may speculate on the dangers of effective reduction of the superior field when false lashes are resumed after the test.
