Abstract

Neonatal administration of a near lethal dose of hexachlorophene had no effect on time of puberty, estrous cycle regularity, fertility, or body weight in hamsters ( Mesocricetus auratus). This indicates that the drug does not interfere with neonatal sexual differentiation of the hypothalamic center that later controls pituitary gonadotropin release in adults.
