Abstract

10 Mirra Komarovsky has an interesting analysis of factors making for in-law conflict. Functional Analysis of Sex Roles, American Sociological Review, 15 (August, 1950), pp. 508-516. that each had some part in the other's success. Even in instances where children did not observe the norms regarding endogamous marriage, parents continued to assist them. Apparently the middle class family as represented in our sample is not as independent or isolated a unit as it is generally thought to be. Affectional and economic ties still link the generational families and give stability to their relationships.
