Abstract

A super-hydrophobic surface with a contact angle of 155° was fabricated on magnesium alloy by chemical etching and self-assemblely treatments. The formation of the super-hydrophobic film is due to a combination of a three-dimensional porous structure and a low-surface-energy film. The corrosion resistance of the samples with the super-hydrophobic films has been significantly improved comparing with the corrosion resistance of the bare Mg alloy. It is found that the super-hydrophobic film has good stability when exposed in air for 6 months. The super-hydrophobic film is also well bonded with the substrate.
