Abstract

Electrophoretic deposition (EPD) technique has been shown as an effective method to produce thin or thick layers onto electrically conductive substrates. The aim of this study is to use the EPD method to fabricate the BaTiO 3 ferroelectric layers with high dielectric constant. Pure titanate powder added in a mixture of acetylacetone (Acac) and ethanol (EtOH) (1:1 volumetric ratio) was formed as an EPD suspension. The effects of the EPD process parameters such as the suspension concentration, deposition time, electrical field strength, substrate size and shape, and chemical or mechanical treatment of EPD suspension on the specific EPD deposited weight were investigated. Facing the same counter-electrode, two or more substrates can be deposited with ceramic layers simultaneously. The sintered BaTiO 3 ferroelectric layers, which were prepared via the EPD route were sufficiently dense and had uniform microstructure.
