Abstract

This work analyzes the manufacture of the AA3303 aluminum alloy by powder metallurgy (PM) technique, using the uniaxial cold compaction and solid phase sintering route. The process will start with the AA3303 alloy powder manufactured by high-energy ball milling (HEBM), which will be compacted and then sintered, thus manufacturing a dense solid. This study aims to validate the PM manufacturing technique as an alternative in the production of the alloy studied. The manufactured alloy was characterized using optical microscopy (OM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and Vickers hardness (HV) tests. The characterization of the manufactured material showed marked porosity, low densification and an inhomogeneous microstructure, but acceptable hardness values were obtained for the alloy under study.
