Abstract

Pure porous Ti3SiC2 with controlled porosity and pore features were prepared by using elemental powders with NaCl as pore-forming agent. Influences of NaCl content and particle size on porosity, purity and mechanical properties of the prepared porous Ti3SiC2 were studied. Results revealed that Ti3SiC2 samples with purity of 97.8% and porosity of 75% can be achieved. The prepared porous Ti3SiC2 samples have good pore connectivity, uniform pore size and pore distribution. The stress–strain curves of the prepared samples showed a typical brittle fracture of ceramic foam.
